The National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act forms the basis of how buildings in South Africa should be constructed. This legislation was published by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) as part of the Code of Practice for the application of the National Building Regulations, known as SANS (South African National Standard) 10400. The SANS 10400 standard refers to a section called “Soil Poisoning”, or pre-construction termite control in buildings. This section is the legal requirement that all construction work needs to adhere to.

The aim of SANS is to ensure that buildings are safe, healthy, and sustainable, while also protecting the environment and preserving our natural resources.

The code states that the foundations, trenches, surface beds and bases of a building must be termite proofed before concrete is cast in the pre-construction phase of the building. This type of termite treatment process creates a barrier between the ground and the building itself and prevents a termite infestation arising.

The standard treatment plan comes with a five (5) year treatment certificate.
